Virginia Louise Grooms Stapleton, age 95 years, of West Union, Ohio, entered into her eternal rest May 9, 2026 at the Adams County Manor. She was born January 20, 1931, the only child of Artie Grooms. Virginia was young child when her mother passed away. She was raised in the Blue Creek area by her aunt and uncle, Mary and James Phipps Sr., who loved her as their own daughter. She considered cousins JC and Audrey as her own brother and sister.
On September 1, 1948, she was united in marriage to Luther Stapleton, the love of her life. To this union, eight children were born; Donald, Richard, James, Michael, Charles, Robert, Peggy, and David. Luther and Virginia settled in the Cedar Mills area where they owned and operated Stapleton’s General Store until Luther’s passing.
Viginia was preceded in death by her mother Artie, husband Luther, sons Donald, Richard, Robert, and grandson Darren.
She is survived by sons James (Melody), Michael (Faye), Charles (Donna), David, and daughter Peggy (Kenny) Hilterbrand, 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, sister Audrey, daughter-in-law April, special friend Carol Daniel, and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at the Thompson-Meeker Funereal Home, with Dave Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in the East Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be held the day of the service from 11:00 A.M. until time of the service.
