Minor Curt Mathews

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Minor Curt Mathews, who departed this life unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in Independence, Kentucky, by an unfathomable act of Mother Nature. Minor was born on December 18, 1964, in Adams County, Ohio, to Joseph Curtis Mathews and Verda Ellen Mathews.

Minor was first and foremost a dedicated, loving husband, father, and papaw. He was a son, a brother, an uncle, a nephew, a cousin, a boss, a great role model, and a hero to his family and all those who knew him.

Minor relished old music, old cars, ancient cultures, deep, meaningful conversations, humor, laughter, and had an unwavering passion for nature. Minor believed that the higher power we call God exists in all things all around us and that when he'd part this earth we'd always find an essence of him in the unturned stones, in the trees blowing in the wind, in the flowers, in the garden, in the air we breathe, in the storms that weather, and in the soil in which he raised his family and spent an abundance of time growing a beautiful home and garden with his wife.

There wasn't anything that Minor couldn't do. His knowledge, passion, and expertise were admired by many. Minor loved woodworking, learning, and improving upon all aspects of his life, and always took a special level of care and passion in every project he set out to do, whether it be at home or work. There were no shortcuts in Minor's life.

In addition to his parents, Minor was preceded in death by his brother Frank Mathews.

Minor is survived by his wife of 42 years Debbie Ann Mathews whom he married on July 22, 1983; his daughters, Kailai Renee Mathews and Dannielle Nicole Mathews; his grandson Jayven Michael Curt Mathews; four sisters; JoEllen, Mary, Donna, and Tabitha, many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and extended family including those not related by blood but deeply related and connected by heart.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation to be held at the Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home in West Union, Ohio, on Wednesday, the 23rd of July, from 11 am - 1 pm, followed by a memorial ceremony to honor the life of the man we all loved so very much.

Minor will be cremated after the ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Minor's wife or that a tree be planted in his honor.
