Michael V. Baird, age 66, of Galloway, OH, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2026 at his residence. He was born December 8, 1959 in Columbus, OH, to the late Richard Baird and Charlotte Broughton. He was a fire fighter/paramedic in West Jefferson, OH and attended the Heritage Freewill Baptist Church in Columbus, OH.
Michael graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Social Studies Education. He loved the Ohio State Buckeyes. He loved his puppy dogs, Nipper, Chipper, Bungee and Lambchop, they were like his own children. Michael loved God and his country and was fiercely patriotic. He had a passion for history, reading books, commentaries, the Bible and doing Bible studies every time he had an opportunity. He was very proud of the legacy that his huge library would leave for the benefit of others.
Michael was a very humble man, and was happy to be a public servant, helping others through his years as a firefighter and paramedic, and helping those of all ages with disabilities and addictions. He enjoyed attending church when his health allowed, and was particularly fond of Pastor Tim Stout, Pastor Shaun Beauchamp, and Pastor Matt Honeycutt. Michael loved traveling to see lighthouses, visiting Amish country, or trips to the mountains with Rebecca. He enjoyed hiking Mt. LeConte with his brothers on several occasions.
While we are thankful that he has been reunited with family, and is now bowing at the feet of his Heavenly Father, his presence here will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Rebecca Joy Baird of Galloway, OH; step-son, Andrew Perkins of Phenix City, AL; brothers, John Baird and wife Pam of Batavia, OH, Tim Baird and wife Sally of Winchester; half-brother, Wayne Buchan and wife Mary of Mechanicsville, VA: grandson; Jackson Perkins; brother-in-law, David Milling and wife Sharon as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Meeker Funeral Home in Russellville. David Milling will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Decatur Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00 - 1:00 PM prior to the service.
