Melvin L. Ward, 85, of Otway, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Eagle Creek Nursing Center. He was born June 5, 1941 in Moline, IL, son of the late Ivan Ward and Myrtle Donley Snyder. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Juanita Stephenson Ward. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Dougie Ward, Frances Williams and Lucille Wright as well as his daughter-in-law, Tinna Ward
Melvin was a hardworking self-employed logger who spent much of his life working the land. Known for logging with mule teams and raising tobacco, he embraced a way of life built on dedication, perseverance, and honest work. Above all, Melvin will be remembered for his generous heart and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His kindness, strong work ethic, and neighborly spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Melvin Scott Ward and Troy Lee Ward; grandchildren, Courtney Ward, Brittany Ward and Sydney (Cody Taylor) Ward; great-grandchildren, Remington, Derringer and Kaylynn Darnell, Brantley Davis, Kinsley Baker and Briley Ward; siblings, Shannon (Frances) Ward, Roger (Betty) Ward, Barb Harris, Debbie McKenzie, Ivan Ward, Brenda Riddle and Bonnie Bradford.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 11:00 AM, until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home, 216 W. Mulberry St., West Union. Burial will follow at Moores Chapel Cemetery in Blue Creek.
