Lucille M. Grooms

Lucille M Grooms, age 96, of Seaman, Ohio, passed away October 25, 2024, at the Monarch Meadows Nursing and Rehab Facility. She was born December 08,1927, in Milford, Illinois, one of four children of James Charles and Harriette Grace Newman. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard (Pete) Grooms, her siblings Raymond Newman, Ruth Storer, and Russell Newman, as well as grandson Mark Grooms. She is survived by three sons Larry D. (Sue Edwards) Grooms, James R. (Tamara) Grooms, Michael S. (Charlene) Grooms and daughter Dee Ann Stricklett. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, a number of nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as a host of friends.

Lucille was the quiet backbone of her family, lending bookkeeping and business acumen to her husband in the establishment of West Union Electric and Plumbing. In her late eighties she volunteered as a classroom aide to her granddaughter Melana and was affectionately known as “Grandma Luce,” a name ascribed to her by her first grandchild Heather, who as a baby couldn’t quite manage Lucille. She was a charter member of the West Union Church of Christ, attending faithfully since the beginning and contributing in countless ways, especially as a teacher of Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She loved children and cherished not only her own children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, but others as well, quietly contributing to many charities and missions. Lucille will be missed by the many friends and family members whose lives she touched in her 96 years on this Earth.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at Noon at the West Union Church of Christ, with Ron Baker officiating. Visitation will be held 10am-12pm, with burial services immediately following in the West Union Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home in West Union.

Memorial donations may be made to West Union Church of Christ – Food for Kids, a program to provide weekend meals to West Union elementary and junior high students. The church address is 270 Lloyd Rd, West Union, OH 45693.
