Leonard B. Stapleton, age 90, of West Union, Ohio, passed away Friday, June 26, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at the Hospice of Hope Inpatient Center. He was born January 17, 1936, in Ashland, Kentucky, the son of the late Mason and Tealie (McCoy) Stapleton. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Stapleton; daughter and son-in-law Teresa Hoskins and Mike; daughter Sherry Scott; his special friend Kay Cofer; five brothers; and two sisters.
Leonard is survived by his son Shawn Stapleton and wife Tina of Warsaw, IN; grandchildren Andrew Scott and Kara; Lauren Davenport and Tim; Matthew Scott and Nicole; David Hoskins; Benjamen Scott and Brittany; Abigail Stapleton; and Wyatt Stapleton; and great-grandchildren Christian Hoskins, Audrey Scott, Evan Scott, Isaiah Davenport, Josiah Davenport, Rocco Scott, Xavier Scott, and Hadlee Scott. He is also survived by son-in-law Drew Scott of West Union, OH, and several nieces and nephews.
Leonard was a retiree of DP&L with 36 years of distinguished service. He also served on local boards including Adams County Children Services, Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp, and the American Cancer Society. He was also a long-time member of the West Union Lions Club. He enjoyed attending church and playing hymns on his harmonica at the West Union Church of Christ and Christian Union. In his spare time Leonard enjoyed hunting (especially deer and morel mushrooms), fishing, woodworking, playing cards, spending time with friends and family, especially watching everyone enjoy his backyard pool.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at noon at the West Union Church of Christ & Christian Union, with Richard Lloyd officiating. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. to noon the day of the service.
