Leona “Marie” Nixon, age 87 years and 8 months of West Union, Ohio passed away, Thursday September 4, 2025 at her home. Marie was a patient of Vitas Hospice. Marie was born December 21, 1937 to the late Bessie Mae (Swearingen) and George Jerald Lucas. In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband, Ora Emerson Nixon and all but one of her children, Andrew Jerald Nixon, Cindy Lee (Nixon) Nace, Gail Ann (Nixon) Puckett and Donald Dwayne Nixon; 2 Grandchildren, Rodney Emerson Nixon and Timothy Ray Bivens Jr. and one great grandchild, Chrissy Willow Cullum. Brothers George Earl Lucas and William Forrest Lucas and one sister Betty Lucille (Lucas) Crank.
Marie was a hard-working lady, worked her whole life for her family, she and her husband had 100 foster children (some still in contact) and she dedicated her life to loving and caring for everyone who came into her life. She took her children and grandchildren to church and taught them to Love and Trust in God for every trial and joy in their lives. Praying right up to her end for her daughter and grandchildren. She will be missed by all.
Marie is survived by one daughter, Neta Christine Nixon (Bivens) and two great grandchildren that she helped raise Cheyenne Nicole (Houchen) Cox and Chad Wade Allen Long; 8 grandchildren, Bethany Ann (Nixon) Reed, Andrew Joshua Nixon, Brandy Christine (Nixon) Aness, Jennifer Lee Nace (Long), Amy Jo Nace, Alice Marie (Puckett) Weeks, Thomas Puckett, Dawnya Opal (Nixon) Cullum; 18 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren and two extra special home health aides – June Conley and Stephanie Fitzpatrick Shannon Potts and several special Vitas Employees.
A visitation will be held Monday, September 8, 2025 at The Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home in West Union from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 11:00 AM, with Marilyn Rhoades officiating. Burial will follow in the West Union Cemetery. Services are entrusted to the Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home.
