Lawrence Shivener, 83, of Blue Creek, passed away Friday, March 13, 2026 at SOMC Hospice Inpatient in Portsmouth. He was born February 15, 1943 in Lynx, son of the late Gladys Shivener Wilson. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 64 years, Carmelita Miranda Shivener. In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by, grandparents, William and Moncie Shivener; sister, Sue Evans and a brother, Jimmy Wilson.
Lawrence was a hardworking farmer who took great pride in the land and the life it provided. He faithfully served his community as a Jefferson Township Trustee for 38 years, a role he truly loved and took great pride in. Lawrence also enjoyed working on cars and could often be found tinkering in the garage, always happy to keep things running smoothly. He had a passion for vegetable gardening, finding satisfaction in growing and sharing the fruits of his labor. In his quieter moments, Lawrence enjoyed relaxing with a good western or keeping up with the day’s events while watching Fox News. Above all, he appreciated the simple pleasures of life, his work, and the community he was proud to serve.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Tina (Danny) Liston and David (Briana) Shivener; grandchildren, Kristi (Brandon) Rockey, Ashlee (Chris) Moore, Dereck (Shelby) Shivener and Dalton (Jessie) Shivener; great-grandchildren, Savannah, Harper and Dallas Shivener, Jovee and Kasen Moore and Zander Rockey; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Gayla Miranda and Betty Johnson as well as several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 12:00 PM, until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home, 216 W. Mulberry St., West Union. Burial will follow at Moores Chapel Cemetery in Blue Creek.
