James "Gene" E. Cummings

James Eugene “Gene” Cummings, 87 years old of West Union, Ohio passed away at the Hospice of Hope Inpatient Center at Adams County Regional Medical Center on December 26, 2023.

Gene was born on August 24, 1936 in Adams County, Ohio to the late Fred and Dorothy (Grooms) Cummings.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther Cummings, sister Maryann Brown, son James Edward “Jim” Cummings and wife Virginia Cummings.

Survivors include three sisters Freda Frowine (Jim), Judy Browning (Ron), and Sharon Elthing. Two sons Danny Cummings (Janey) and Mathew Cummings (Stephanie) and one daughter in law Karen Cummings. Seven grandchildren Bradley Cummings (Tiana), Jason Cummings, Abby Cummings, Natasha Grooms, Dustin Cummings (Carly), Heather Fannin (Eric), Chase Cummings (Erin) and many great grandchildren.

Gene was a member of the Grace Fellowship church and attended many local churches doing what he loved – serving God. He made living his life for God and his family a priority.

Gene will be sadly missed by his family, church families, and his many friends, but is rejoicing in Heaven at his long-awaited home.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley.

Funeral services will be held, Friday December 29, 2023 at 1 PM at the Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home in West Union, with Dean Kirker and Rob Blythe officiating. Burial will follow in the West Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held the day of the service from 11 AM till 1 PM. Services are entrusted to the Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home.
