James Andrew Sammons, born June 26, 1946, passed away on September 7, 2024, at Jewish Hospital at the age of 78. A lifelong resident of Williamsburg, Ohio, James was a cherished member of his community, known for his generosity and unwavering commitment to his family. His love for his family was a source of warmth and affection that touched everyone who knew him. James was a proud Mason and Shriner. As the owner of Sammons Blacktopping, he built a successful business through hard work and integrity. It was well-known to many that James had a passion for football, horses, and playing cards with friends, but his role as Jessie Marie's grandfather brought him his greatest joy. His love and joy for his granddaughter were evident in every moment they shared, whether sharing a milkshake, taking golf cart rides, or trail riding together. James enjoyed relaxing on his porch, surrounded by friends and family. His warmth and humor made every gathering memorable. All who knew him will deeply miss his welcoming spirit and contagious smile.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Sammons; stepson, Brandon Crawford (Monica); granddaughter, Jessie Marie; and many nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his daughter, Christina Sammons; his mother, Mary Agnes Sammons; his father, French S. Sammons; his brother, John Sammons; and his sister, Mary Carolyn Campbell.
Graveside services will be held at the Manchester 100F Cemetery (Cemetery Street, Manchester, Ohio 45144) on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. The Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home in West Union is serving the family.
