Ellis "Lee" Patterson

October 15, 1938 ~ May 14, 2021 (age 82)

Ellis “Lee” Patterson, 82, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 14, 2021 in Blue Creek, Ohio.  Lee was born on October 19, 1938 in Ravenswood, West Virginia to parents Elizabeth Givens Hoffman (100) and Eugene Patterson (deceased).  He was raised in the Wellsburg, Virginia area by his mother Elizabeth Givens Hoffman (100) and step father Lawrence E. Hoffman (deceased).

Lee is survived by his wife of 47 years Judy Whitmire Patterson (72); mother Elizabeth M. Hoffman; Daughter Leanne Patterson Yentzer (Mark) of Blue Creek, OH; son Michael Patterson (Heather) of Rockypoint, NC; son Jay Patterson (Charlotte) of Hampstead, NC; and daughter Pam Patterson Pever (Larry) of Oak Harbor, OH.  Lee also has 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

After High School graduation Lee spent 3 years in the Marine Corp.  After coming back home he resumed being a mechanic that he’d been during High School.  His love of vehicles & working on them led him to become a Nascar driver in the early 60’s.  He wound up in Ohio as a mechanic at Donaldson Ford in Maumee, Ohio.  Having broken his right hand, he was asked to try being a sales man.  This was successful and later in 1970 he started his own dealership in Swanton, Ohio, Lee’s Sales & Service.  By the time he retired in 2009 (at 70 years old) he was the largest full-service car dealership in Northwest Ohio.  Lee then moved with his wife Judy, 2 horses and dog Pete to Blue Creek, Ohio to enjoy the beauty and friendship of the area.  In the mid 70’s he became a Mason.  Boating, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and hiking were among his hobbies as well as attending Blue Grass festivals.

The Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home has been entrusted with Lee’s cremation.  There are no planned services at this time.
