Dorothy Ione Grooms, age 98, of West Union, passed away January 31, 2026, at home surrounded by her children. Dorothy, daughter of Clarence and Belva (Louderback) Nichols, was born September 26, 1927, in Adams County. On April 1, 1946, she was married to Floyd Grooms. They had over 53 years of marriage.
To this union eight children were born: three sons and five daughters. She is survived by two sons: Darrell and wife (Stevetta) of Winchester and Terry and wife (Annette) of West Union; four daughters: Rita Young of Farmington, Illinois; Treva Allison and husband Steven; Willa Daulton and Gail DeMint of West Union.
Dorothy is survived by 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and two nieces: Sharon Piatt of West Union and Patricia Nichols of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son (Gerald), daughter (Nedra Rose), two sons-in-law: (Anthony Young) and (Butch Rose), three grandchildren, one great-grandson, one niece and three brothers: Ray, Roy and Frank Nichols.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 11:00 AM, until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home, 216 W. Mulberry St., West Union. Ron Baker will officiate. Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Adams County Christian School.
