Carolyn Burton Obituary

Carolyn Sue Burton, known affectionately as “Cookie” by her family, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021 at the age of 76.  She was a resident of the Adams County Manor in West Union, Ohio and had lived there since 2017.

Carolyn was the youngest of nine children, born to the late Oscar Raymond Howell and Esta Marie Francis on November 30, 1944 in Manchester, Adams County, Ohio.  She also had two paternal half-siblings and three maternal half-siblings.

Carolyn moved to Portsmouth, Ohio after graduating from Manchester High School to study nursing.  Upon receiving her degree, Carolyn moved back to Manchester.  Carolyn maintained two residencies for many years: one in Manchester with her mother and in Georgetown, Brown County, Ohio where she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Brown County Hospital and later at the Georgetown Veterans Home.  She would live in Georgetown and come home to Manchester on her off periods.

Carolyn had several hobbies and interests.  She often wrote poetry and song lyrics.  Several of her poems were published in compilation books of poems and one of her songs had some interest from Nashville record company.  She also loved to sing and make crochet projects.  Carolyn loved animals, especially dogs and throughout her life always had a furry friend.  Carolyn was also very devoted to her husband, Robert “Bob” Burton.  They married later in life and gave each other some years of happy companionship.

Carolyn is survived by one brother, Garland Wayne Howell and Mansfield, Ohio; a daughter, Brandi (Eastin) McDaniel; two grand-daughters, Nikayla & Annalise McDaniel.  She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews to whom she meant very much.

Cookie will be cremated.  A memorial graveside service will be held at a later date.  Wilson Funeral Home in Manchester is entrusted with arrangements.
