JoAnn (Smittle) Young

JoAnn Young age 87 years of West Union, passed peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2019.  She was born April 12, 1932 in Seaman, Ohio the daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes Smittle. Besides her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, sons David and Mark; sister Miriam Raines and brother Joseph Jr.

JoAnn was a graduate of Seaman High School in 1950.  Following high school, JoAnn married Frank.  With Frank stationed in Virginia, JoAnn worked in the Pentagon as Frank served as an Honor Guard during the Korean Conflict.  After Frank’s service, they returned to Ohio where JoAnn worked, and retired as a supervisor for Farmers Home Administration.

JoAnn was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, West Union United Methodist Church, and an avid supporter of North Adams High School basketball and most recently the North Adams youth leagues with her younger grandchildren.

JoAnn is survived by her children Debbie (Walter) Gray of West Union, OH; Matthew (Emily) Young of Seaman, OH; daughter in laws Nancy Young of Hillsboro, OH; and Candice Young of London, OH; grandchildren Amy (Jed) White; Melissa (Donte’) Dunnagan Jason (Laura) Young; Megan Young; Brady (Ashley) Gray; Jennifer Young; Asher, Ezra, & Ezekiel Young; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at the Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home with Marilyn Rhodes, Al Bolte & Brady Gray officiating.  Burial will follow in the Cherry Fork Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. the day of the service.
